Hall in brilliant white and Cornforth White

A request commonly made to painters and decorators in London is to reverse poorly executed conversion work — such work often leads to the reinstatement of valuable period features. The small hallway in this Victorian property with 3.2m ceilings was a case in point.

The plasterboard ceiling and modern coving were removed, putting the full height of the ceiling, as well as the original cornicing, back on show for the first time in 30 years.

Half of the walls were painted in Cornforth White by Farrow & Ball; the remaining walls, the ceiling and the cornice, were painted in brilliant white.

Morden and Lea — painting and decorating in central London

Not all painters and decorators in London enjoy their trips into the centre of town, but we always enjoy the experience as well and the variety of the work.

David recently carried out some redecoration at the lovely Morden and Lea restaurant on Wardour Street in Soho.

Perhaps the next time we return, it will be to wield nothing larger than a knife and fork…

Dunlop acrylic filler

We’re pleased to have — finally — landed upon a solution to the eternal problem of caulk cracking after being painted.

Dunlop’s acrylic filler is the first product we’ve encountered which truly does fulfil the claim of being paintable with emulsion within an hour.

(Thank you to Gareth for sending a couple of tubes in the post to trial.)

With Polycell’s regular caulk, our standard routine had always been a sealing coat of oil-based undercoat, or Zinsser Coverstain — so it’s good to now be able to remove that additional, unnecessary labour.
