This redecoration work on a flat in Earls Court in west London brought about a dramatic, glamorous transformation to some pre-existing fitted furniture.
The previous cabinetmaking was of a high standard, meaning that the units could be altered instead of replaced.
Firstly, downlighters were fitted to the top of the units; next, new mouldings were pinned on, into which LED ribbon lighting was rebated. The effect of LED lighting such as this is enhanced if the ribbon remains invisible — what is sought is merely the wash of the light itself.
Following the alterations and electrical work, the units were painted in Eico Old White Flat EggshellandIcan Metallic in q16 nickel, products we can recommend highly to any professional painter and decorator, or keen DIY-er.
A quick progress note on this job in south London which has involved reboarding a ceiling with fireproof plasterboard .. followed by taping and filling all joints.
The work was required following the removal of built-in enclosed storage above the existing kitchen area.
This was a solid oak table which had fallen into a state of mild disrepair, perhaps due to the original finish not being of a high enough quality — we sanded it using ourMirka Derosdust-free sanding system, before applying four coats of varnish.
The photo was taken just after applying the first coat of varnish to one side: as you can see, oak is a light wood in its raw state.
This particular piece of wood has a characteristic figuring, which becomes much less visible with the application of each coat of varnish.
